Dry blood spot (DBS) sampling technique is gaining popularity due to its advantages over traditional methods such as reduced sample volume, convenience in sample handling, cost reduction, etc. However, DBS technique poses various challenges in implementation for drug development studies. For DBS to be widely applicable, automated onsite blood spotting is essential. This approach does not facilitate the introduction of an anticoagulant to blood samples. In this study, the effect of the presence and absence of anticoagulant in blood was investigated using DBS samples containing the analytes Quetiapine and two of its metabolites (norquetiapine and quetiapine sulphoxide). Isotope labeled internal standard for each analyte was employed. The accuracy and precision of data generated using LCMS method were compared. The experiment was performed with four types of commercially available filter papers currently used for spotting blood. Quetiapine is an antipsychotic drug used for the treatment of schizophrenia.
